Recently, I reached one hundred readers on my Substack account. For some, it’s probably not a whole lot to write home about, but needless to say I was ecstatic. Happy because it was a goal I only dreamed about a year ago. I never thought I would make it this far, not to mention reach the 100 milestone.
A year ago, I didn’t have much confidence but I had the drive, I didn’t have the experience but I had the talent. I read the work produced by other writers and I didn’t think I was good enough. I enjoyed writing and I continued to produce pieces and publish them on a regular basis. It was probably one of the consistencies in my life. There was an element of dedication and the importance I gave to it.
People ask me all the time why I started writing. I began writing years ago because it was easier than talking. I wrote about my feelings, it was a path towards healing myself. I wasn’t an English major, but with time it became almost a habit.
People connect with my stories because they’re about life, real-life scenarios. It makes me happy when I write, but it makes me happier to receive that one comment about how my story touched a soul. I have my own style, I choose to write about whatever comes to mind. I express my thoughts and fuel emotions. No one has to agree with me and that is the beauty of this art. Every story touches a different person.
I have a quote that sits on my desk, it reads; ‘One day you will be someone’s favorite author’ and I am inspired to be just that. Every person should have a goal, a dream and a vision. Something in your life that motivates you to be a better person and have a brighter future. We should all strive to be better than we were yesterday. Having a goal motivates you to do more, it makes you want to go that much further. Achieving your goal not only gives you the boost you so rightly deserve, it also reminds you of how far you came to reach the impossible.
It’s fine to walk in life with the same intention everyday and be comfortable in your lane. Ask yourself why you’re settling for just that? Life was made to be lived, explored and experienced so why settle when your dream of doing something outside of your comfort zone can be achieved. Take a little risk, step out of the box and be a little uncomfortable, you’ll realize there are parts of you that are easy to fool. We just need to switch our mindset because everything that you set out to do starts in your mind.
Life isn’t perfect and obstacles are in abundance but if we hesitated each time or even turned back, we’d never experience living fully. Failing, which is also part of this journey, only means you grew, learned a lesson and inspires a better outcome next time. Manifest your goals, let the universe know your intentions no matter how trivial or silly they may be, and never give up. Believe in yourself. It’s all worth it in the end, but you have to start now.
I appreciate each one of you for reading and supporting my work, especially those who encouraged me. You made this goal of mine possible and I couldn’t have asked for a better audience, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
